Nongkrem MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit on Monday unveiled a slew of constituency-level development projects under the MLA Scheme through the Special Rural Works Programme for 2025–26.

The development package, with a cumulative outlay of around ₹2.5 crore, focuses on housing, livelihood support, education infrastructure and community assets across the Nongkrem constituency.

The projects were formally unveiled during a programme held at Basaiawmoit’s residence in Lad Nongkrem. The programme was attended by VPP vice-president Dr Kara Chen, Mawlai MLA Brightstarwell Marbaniang, Nongkrem MDC Kitborlang Syiem and other dignitaries.

As part of the housing component, 60 houses for economically weaker families will be constructed at a cost of ₹45 lakh, while another ₹45 lakh has been earmarked for the construction and renovation of 180 residential houses.

The livelihood component covers 650 farmers and small-scale traders, who will receive assistance under the scheme at an allocation of ₹65 lakh.

The MLA Scheme also prioritises education infrastructure, with ₹20 lakh earmarked for a new building at Laitkor Presbyterian Secondary School and ₹15 lakh for providing computers to Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Smit.

A further ₹15 lakh has been allocated for construction and improvement works at St Paul LP School, St Peter Secondary School and Mawmuthoh Presbyterian LP School, while ₹5 lakh will support the expansion of the St John Bosco school building.

In another constituency-level intervention, ₹10 lakh has been sanctioned for construction of the Nongkrem Nongkyndong Community Hall.
