The Hynniewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) Sohiong Circle has urged the PWD (Roads), National Highway Division, Shillong, to take immediate steps to reinstall missing road delineators along the Shillong–Nongstoin National Highway 44E (New NH 106), particularly from Km 2.00 to Km 22.00 between Sadow and Mawmaram.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Engineer, PWD (Roads), Meghalaya, HYC Sohiong Circle President Purningstar Shabong said the organisation had earlier sought clarification from the department regarding the removal of delineators along the 20-km stretch.

According to the HYC, the Executive Engineer had attributed the missing delineators to damages caused by road accidents and overspeeding, as well as theft or destruction by unknown miscreants.

However, Shabong termed the explanation unacceptable and alleged that the missing delineators reflected a lack of responsibility on the part of the concerned PWD National Highways Division. He further alleged that almost all the delineators were removed shortly after being erected.

The HYC president described the matter as a “misuse and wastage of public money” and urged the department to ensure the installation of new delineators along the highway in the interest of road safety and public security.
