The 8th Riti Academy Annual Award Ceremony at Raj Bhavan

The 8th Riti Academy Annual Award Ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan where five meritorious personalities were conferred with the prestigious award by the Governor of Meghalaya, Shri C H Vijayashankar who grace the occasion as chief guest, besides F R Kharkongor, IAS, Principal Secretary, Arts and Culture and Dr B D R Tiwari, IAS, Commisioner and Secretary to the Governor. In the interaction with the awardees the governor lauded the effort of Riti Academy in facilitating the recognition to deserving young talents of the state and appreciate the gesture of acknowledgement for their excellent performances in their respective expertise. He also urged upon everybody to be concerned with society at a time where antisocial indulgence by the young people is on the rise, and expressed the need to drive the youth into positive engagement in their proficiency. He warned that three vital indulgences of the youth, drug addiction, early marriage and HIV disease is a menace that needs to be apprehended and eradicated through positive social engagements.

The distinguished personalities who were awarded are Dr Mebanlamphang Lyngdoh for the Rana Kharkongor Award for excellence Music and Literature, Rangkitbok C Dohkrut for the S Quotient Sume Award for excellence in Literature, Kyrmenlang Uriah for the Sumar Sing Sawian Award for excellence in media, Ram Kymjin with the Prithpal Sing Sehdeve Award for excellence in Visual Arts and Ricky Paul Marwein with the Crystal Gayle Kharnaior Award for excellence in Digital Arts. The awards were conferred by the governor Shri C H Vijayashankar in the presence of Raphael Warjri, Chairman Riti Academy, Shri F R Kharkongor, Principal Secretary and Dr B D R Tiwari, Commisioner and Secretary besides the family partner of celebrated luminaries in whose name the awards are instituted.

In his keynote address, Raphael Warjri paid a tribute to Shri Satyapal Malik, who passed away recently, significantly being the dignitary who presented the State Award to him and who impressed upon the government that the Academy deserved proper premises, supported by the government. Nevertheless Warjri expressed gratitude to the various assignment of artworks by the Government and the regular engagement in active participation of art activities throughout the year. Warjri expressed gratefulness to the Governor for sponsoring the cash incentive of Rupees Eleven thousand each to be presented to all the distinguished awardees. Other who spoke on the occasion are Shri F R Kharkongor, IAS Principal Secretary, Dr B D R Tiwari, Commisioner and Secretary and the awardees who spoke in the interaction with the Governor. The ceremonial celebration culminated with a tribute song by Dalariti G Kharnaior to her late sister, Crystal Gayle Kharnaior who passed away on this day eight years ago.
