The All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Drivers Association has reiterated its disappointment over the state government’s inaction on their long-pending demand for a clear policy governing tourist taxi operations.

The Association reminded that it had earlier staged a sit-in demonstration at Khyndailad, Shillong, pressing for regulations to ensure that only Meghalaya-registered tourist taxis are allowed to operate at prominent tourist destinations. Despite prior discussions with the Director of Tourism, Cyril VD Diengdoh, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, and other officials, the issue remains unresolved.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Association President Ricaldinus Dohling announced that members have unanimously decided to launch an indefinite strike beginning on16 September , 2025. The move comes after the lapse of a one-week ultimatum given to the state government to respond to the association’s demands. Dohling asserted that the agitation will continue until the government frames a policy that safeguards the rights and livelihoods of local taxi drivers by restricting tourist taxi services exclusively to those registered in Meghalaya.
