CHECKPOINTS, NOT CHECKMATES: BJP’s HEK SAYS MEGHALAYA SAFE AND WELCOMING

Meghalaya BJP legislator Alexander L. Hek, while speaking to the media today, dismissed allegations that the state is unsafe for tourists as baseless and unacceptable.
He emphasized that the state government, along with law enforcement agencies including the police, magistrates, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local residents of Sohra, had worked in close coordination during the recent search operation for Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi, despite challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions.
Hek further stated that while unfortunate incidents may occasionally occur anywhere, it is unfair to tarnish Meghalaya’s image by branding it as an unsafe destination.
Speaking on the issue of setting up entry points in Meghalaya, BJP MLA Alexander L. Hek stated that while the presence of such checkpoints is necessary, they should not turn into harassment points that trouble or inconvenience people entering the state.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between regulation and hospitality, ensuring that visitors are welcomed without unnecessary hindrance.
