TWO KHASI-PNAR GIRLS RESCUED FROM TRAFFICKING IN HARYANA
In a coordinated rescue operation, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Delhi Unit, in collaboration with the Special Police Unit for North East Region (SPUNER), successfully rescued two Khasi-Pnar girls from an alleged human trafficking network in Haryana.
The victims, aged 15 and 18, are residents of East Jaintia Hills district in Meghalaya. Sources revealed that the girls were taken to Delhi by an acquaintance from Meghalaya, reportedly without the knowledge or consent of their parents, after being lured with promises of employment as domestic workers.
Upon arrival, however, they were allegedly transported to a spa in Haryana, where they were forced into commercial sexual exploitation. Managing to contact their families amid distress, the victims triggered swift intervention after their relatives approached the KSU Delhi Unit for assistance.
The Union promptly alerted SPUNER, following which a joint operation was launched, leading to the successful tracing and rescue of the girls from the location.
The KSU Delhi Unit expressed appreciation to all officials and individuals involved in the operation. It extended special thanks to Sabrina of Meghalaya House for her support and to Joint Commissioner of Police Nabam Gungte of SPUNER for his leadership.
The Union also acknowledged the efforts of the SPUNER rescue team, including Sub-Inspector Ngalung Wung, ASI Naveen Kumar, Head Constable Satish Kumar, and Woman Constable Lalrinhluni, for their commitment on the ground.
Describing the incident as a serious warning, KSU Delhi Unit president Samla Marbiang Khongwir urged parents and youths to remain cautious of fraudulent job offers that often serve as traps for trafficking networks.
The Union stated that it is working with authorities to provide counselling to the rescued girls and facilitate their safe return to Meghalaya. It also thanked MLA Kyrmen Shylla for providing financial assistance towards their air travel back home.
