RI BHOI ADMINISTRATION ISSUES PUBLIC ADVISORY DURING BYRNIHAT–JORABAT ROUTE VEHICLE BLOCKADE
Vehicular movement along the Byrnihat–Jorabat corridor has been severely disrupted, following the continued reciprocal blockade by tourist vehicle operators from Assam and Meghalaya.
Amid the developing situation, the Ri Bhoi District Administration has issued a Public Advisory, urging commuters to avoid the Byrnihat–Jorabat route until further notice.
The advisory, issued by Abhishek Saini, District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi, comes in view of the ongoing disruption and the difficulties being faced by commuters along the inter-state route.
The administration has particularly urged passengers travelling for medical emergencies, air travel, rail journeys and other essential purposes to avoid the affected stretch and opt for designated alternative routes.
Commuters from Shillong, Nongpoh and Byrnihat heading towards Guwahati’s LGBI Airport and railway station have been advised to use either the Byrnihat–Pillingkata–Killing route or the Nongpoh–Patharkhmah–Rani route.
Meanwhile, passengers travelling from LGBI Airport or Guwahati railway station towards Shillong have been advised to take the Basistha–Pillingkata–Killing route or the Rani–Patharkhmah–Mairang route.
The latest advisory comes against the backdrop of an escalating inter-state transport standoff, with reciprocal road blockades affecting the movement of vehicles between Assam and Meghalaya.
The District Administration has appealed to commuters to exercise caution, avoid the affected corridor and make necessary travel arrangements until normal vehicular movement is restored and further instructions are issued.
