Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday held talks with his Assam counterpart, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, in Guwahati, Assam, over the concerns raised by residents of Lapangap and the recent tensions between neighbouring villages along the interstate border.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, Chief Secretary Shakil P. Ahammed, and Commissioner and Secretary in-charge Home and Law, Cyril V.D. Diengdoh.

During the meeting, the two Chief Ministers discussed measures to defuse the situation and ensure the maintenance of peace and law and order in the sensitive border areas. Sangma appealed to residents on both sides of Meghalaya and Assam to maintain calm and cooperate with the authorities as efforts continue towards finding a permanent resolution to the border dispute.

Conrad Sangma also acknowledged Sarma’s assurance that both state governments would work in coordination to address the concerns of border residents and take proactive steps to prevent further escalation of tensions in the region.
