Deputy Chief Minister and Public Works Department Minister Prestone Tynsong on Thursday inaugurated a newly-constructed road and bridge near Umiam Dam aimed at facilitating the movement of night super buses and other heavy vehicles.

The new bridge, measuring 75 metres in length, along with a 2.260-km road, has been constructed along the lower side of the existing dam bridge where the movement of heavy vehicles and night super buses had been temporarily restricted.

The programme was attended by Umroi MLA Damanbait Lamare, senior PWD officials, district administrators, police officials, engineers, shnong leaders and local residents.

Addressing the gathering, Prestone Tynsong said the restriction on the movement of heavy vehicles over the Umiam Dam bridge had caused inconvenience to the public, particularly affecting transportation and goods carriers.
