MEGHALAYA CM INAUGURATES NORTHEAST’S LARGEST BOTTLING PLANT IN MENDIPATHAR
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated the Northeast’s largest bottling plant by Varun Beverages Ltd (PepsiCo) at Mendipathar, North Garo Hills. Set up on 37 acres with an investment of ₹340 crore, the plant is expected to employ around 500 people and boost economic activity in the region.
Calling the project a “blessing” for the state, the Chief Minister said it would open new job opportunities and raise aspirations among the youth. He noted that the Mendipathar Industrial Area was conceived in the 1990s but remained inactive for decades until now.
The CM credited the late P.A. Sangma for envisioning Mendipathar’s industrial potential and thanked the local Nokma and residents for donating the land years ago. He also announced that another plant in the Tikrikilla-Bajengdoba area is nearing completion.
The inauguration was attended by senior ministers and MLAs. The Chief Minister lauded Varun Beverages Chairman Ravikant Jaipuria for completing the project in just 11 months and choosing Meghalaya for this landmark investment.
