DECOMPOSED BODY OF MISSING WOMAN RECOVERED FROM WAHDUID RIVER; MURDER CONFIRMED
In a shocking incident, a decomposed body of a woman was recovered on Sunday afternoon from the Wahduid river along the boundary of Nongrah and Lapalang villages.
The body, which was found stuffed inside a sack, was first spotted by local residents, who promptly informed shnong authorities. The matter was subsequently reported to Rynjah Police Station, following which police personnel, accompanied by a Crime Scene Unit team, rushed to the spot. The team carried out an initial examination and collected vital evidence before retrieving the body.
Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Vivek Syiem, also visited the scene to oversee the operation.
Police later identified the deceased as Eilang Phawa, a resident of Nongthymmai Lawjynriew and a native of West Jaintia Hills, who had been reported missing since March 20, 2026.
Speaking to the media, the SP confirmed that the woman was a victim of homicide. He added that an investigation is currently underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
