24 feet Statue of Tirot Sing Syiem erected at Laitarted

The 190th anniversary of Tirot Sing Syiem was marked by the erection of a magnificent statue at Laitarted, Nongthliew by Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council, which coincided with its 11th anniversary. the statue was unveiled by Dr K M Syiemlieh, Deputy Chief of Hima Nongkhlaw who lauded the outstanding initiative by HYC, particuularly at the 500 years anniversary of the erstwhile Hima Khatsawphra, now known as Hima Nongkhlaw. He also called upon the people to imbibe the patriotic spirit of the freedom fighter and translate into their contemporary enthusiasm to protect the people from the onslaught of dominant community in all aspects of life. The president of HYC, Roy Kupar Synrem in his keynote address he expressed the commitment of the HYC to protect the interest of the indigenous people of the state and lauded the contribution of his earlier incumbents, Peter Lawai and Robert June Kharjahrin who had pioneered the pathway to every accomplishment that the organisation has achieved including the erection of the monument of the freedom fighter, Tirot Sing Syiem to inspire the future generation. Subsequently, the Chief Guest Dr K M Syiemlieh was felicitated by the President, Roy Kupar Synrem, while Vice President, Donboklang Kharlyngdoh felicitated the artist Raphael Warjri and his team who sculpted the 24ft tall statue of the freedom fighter, Tirot Sing Syiem. The team of artists comprising aspiring sculptors, Banteilang Hynniewta nad Ritonwell Sutong and the apprentices Ialissing Mawrie, Banjop Leo Kharmalki, Ban Mawrie. The ceremonial unveiling of the statue was marked by the released of the pictorial booklet on the history of freedom struggle of Tirot Sing Syiem and his comrades in arms, the book Khasi Folk Democracy authored by Raphael Warjri followed by a  cultural programmes performed local folk and traditional artists, Snow White, Khmih Creative Society, Thunder Cave and Akbar Nongdhar and party.
